A Message from Okologie's CEO on Anti-Asian Racism
Okologie is steadfast in its commitment against racism and discrimination in all its forms, and we will continue to firmly speak out and strongly condemn intolerance, discrimination, and violence. We stand firmly against all racially and ethnically motivated acts of intimidation and violence. Sadly, over the past year, we have witnessed an increase in hate speech and violence. This includes attacks against members of the Asian community largely fueled by COVID-19 pandemic rhetoric and xenophobia.
Okologie is dedicated to an inclusive and equitable community and the world, one that reflects our mission of public health education service and positive social change. As we stand together with our Asian and Asian American colleagues, friends, and neighbors, we do so as one community committed to anti-racism in all its forms.
Okologie has welcomed all from around the world with a culture that respects all people, regardless of nationality, race, religion, ethnic origin, disability, gender identity, or sexual orientation. When we encounter discrimination, hatred, or violence against another person based on their race, religion, or background, we must condemn these acts and join together in active opposition to injustice.
Okologie's mission of social change is intertwined with the responsibility to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion not just in our site but in our communities, our nation, and around the world. I can assure you that Okologie will continue to address racism and bias in all its forms.
I know you all join me in supporting Okologie's mission in making our community a welcome and safe environment for everyone.
Sincerely,
Brenda Billings, Dr. PH (c), MPH, MSc
